Miruna Achim: from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana to Le Mans Université

In the framework of the project “Internationalization of research and teaching programmes”, l’Université du Mans invites Miruna Achim to share her expertise and exchange with colleagues in Le Mans.

She will stay from 2 to 13 November and will work on the following:

1. Research collaboration with Nathalie Richard on jade circulation (history of arcaheology) for a paper to be published in the Centaurus issue edited by Nathalie Richard and Irina Podgorny.

2. Participation in the SciCoMove launch workshop on 8-9 November

3. Giving a presentation on the history museums and collections in Latin America for master students (séminaire de Master Histoire). The presentation will focus on Achim’s book, From Idols to Antiquity: Forging the National Museum of Mexico, published by University of Nebraska Press in 2017.

4. Visiting Carnac and Vannes. The objective of these visits is collecting information on Neolithic jades and their collection/display in the nineteenth century. This will provide a point of comparison with Mesoamerican jades and will help reconstruct debates about prehistory and early connections between Asia, America, and Europe, as theorized in the nineteenth century. These  visits are related to her research on “Jade Celts” in the SciCoMove project
